Taofiq Isah, the current Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area in Kogi State, is facing allegations of auctioning government properties, including vehicles, typewriters, motorcycles, furniture, and more, worth hundreds of millions of naira.
Arewa PUNCH’s investigation reveals that the sale was an attempt to raise funds for the council due to the freezing of state and local government accounts by Governor Yahaya Bello.
The items sold reportedly include valuable assets such as vehicles, farming equipment, and office appliances.
The auction, just a month before Isah’s tenure ends, has sparked concerns about transparency and accountability. Isah defends the sale, stating that the items were moribund and had little economic value.
However, critics argue that the auction process lacks transparency and may leave the local government financially crippled.
