Amidst the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate for 2023, Beatrice Itubo, is currently in discussions with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Itubo confirmed the meeting, stating that discussions are still in progress without providing specific details about her party allegiance.

She emphasized that further information would be disclosed once their deliberations conclude.

The political landscape in Rivers State has witnessed significant shifts, with 27 members of the State House of Assembly defecting from the PDP to the All-Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection is reportedly linked to a rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, escalating tensions within the Assembly.

In response to the unfolding situation, elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and address Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), concerning the political unrest in Rivers State.

Clark emphasizes the need to avoid chaos in the country if former governors insist on controlling their successors.
