The Federal Government is determined to finish the long-pending section of the Abuja-Kaduna road before the close of 2024, addressing delays that have plagued the project since its initiation in December 2018.

Despite previous assurances from officials, the completion date has been pushed back, attributed to various challenges, including security issues in 2022 and the relocation of communities along the Zaria section of the 265km road.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, expressed confidence in overcoming contractual hurdles during a recent meeting in Abuja, emphasizing the ministry’s dedication to ensuring the project’s timely completion for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Umahi also revealed that contractors have requested a revision in the project’s budget, increasing it to N1.3 billion to adequately fund the remaining phases of the project.

“We are looking at existing sub-grades and exploring alternatives to address the financial constraints. While the contractor’s requested amount is deemed excessive, our commitment remains unwavering. I am determined to see the completion of this road in the coming year,” stated Umahi.

The Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway, managed by Julius Berger and funded under the Presidential Development Fund initiatives, holds the promise of improved connectivity and enhanced transportation infrastructure.
