Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, has joined fellow Nigerians in grieving the loss of Nollywood veteran actor John Okafor, affectionately known as “Mr. Ibu.”

In a heartfelt post on his social media handle, Obi expressed his condolences.

John Okafor, a legendary comic actor, embodied laughter, exuded joy, and spread happiness throughout his illustrious career. His sudden illness prompted prayers for a swift recovery, but sadly, he has left us. His passing is not only a blow to the entertainment industry but also a loss felt by the entire nation.

Artists like Mr. Ibu play a vital role in lightening the collective mood during challenging times. Their ability to bring laughter and joy serves as a beacon of hope, helping us weather life’s storms.

On behalf of my family, I extend heartfelt sympathy to his bereaved family, the Actors Guild of Nigeria, and the broader Nollywood community. While we mourn his departure, we find solace in the cherished memories of the joy and happiness he shared with us. May God grant him eternal rest and provide strength to those who grieve his irreplaceable loss. Rest in Peace, Mr. Ibu!
