Residents in Kano State have been filmed removing the face of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from a large campaign billboard while leaving the image of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in place.
The video posted on October 31 2026 shows the action taking place on a busy urban road filled with heavy traffic of cars trucks and people.
A person wearing a red shirt is seen climbing the metal framework of the billboard and pulling down white sections of the display. Other individuals assist from below as the torn materials hang and flutter in the air.
The billboard carries the slogan KANO FIRST WITH along with APC party logos and pictures of men in traditional red and patterned caps. The portion with Tinubu is actively taken down while the governor photo on the right side stays untouched.
Vehicles pass underneath including one marked with the Hausa phrase ALLAH YA TSARE a common prayer for protection seen on many northern Nigerian cars and trucks. People sit on the tops of covered trucks watching the scene unfold amid the crowded street.
The removal comes as residents reject his reelection amid ongoing hardship and insecurity. Many Nigerians continue to face high living costs following the 2023 removal of fuel subsidy. Petrol now sells for more than 1200 naira per litre in many areas after rising from around 200 naira before the reform. Food prices transport costs and overall inflation have remained elevated. The World Bank has estimated that the number of Nigerians living in poverty rose from about 125 million in 2023 to around 143 million in 2026.
Insecurity has also spread in parts of the North including Kano State. Bandit groups displaced from other areas have moved into locations such as Rogo Local Government Area where residents have reported abductions in villages. Attacks have been recorded in several Kano local government areas including Chiromawa Garun Mallam Beli and communities near Gwarzo. Federal authorities recently established a new Army battalion in Tudun Wada and an artillery regiment in Dambatta to respond to the threats.
