Following the recent bomb explosion in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, paid a visit to Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday to express solidarity and offer support.
Sharing the visit on his social media handle, Obi stated, “Today, in the company of comrades including Aisha Yesufu, Dele Farotimi, and Dr. Moses Paul, I paid a solidarity visit to my dear friend and brother, Governor Seyi Makinde, at Ibadan, Oyo State. This visit aimed to commiserate with him and the people of Oyo State over the recent explosion that tragically claimed lives and left others injured.”
Expressing empathy for the economic and emotional toll on the affected individuals, many of whom were left homeless, Obi emphasized, “I am concerned about the trauma and psychological devastation experienced by these brothers and sisters of ours. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected families during these difficult times.”
Acknowledging the swift response from Governor Makinde and his team in establishing an emergency center and a donation channel for the victims, Obi praised their efforts, stating, “That is what governance should be about – caring for the people.” He pledged to make token donations to the government’s provided payment details, emphasizing the need for collective support during such trying times.
“As one big family, we all share in their pains and discomforts at this time,” Obi expressed, concluding with a heartfelt prayer for the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured, “Again, I pray God to grant eternal rest to the dead and grant quick recovery to the injured. -PO”
