Governor Alex Otti of Abia State recently welcomed the Political and Economic Section Chief of the US Consulate Office Lagos, Mike Ervin, and his team for a working visit.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss strengthening US-Nigeria relations and promoting trade, investment, and prosperity in Abia State.

Governor Otti shared the challenges and opportunities that Abia State faces, particularly in the business sector. He emphasized the need for financial support, power, and logistics for entrepreneurs and industries. He also informed the US Consulate about the upcoming inauguration of the Geometric power plant in Aba, which will address the long-standing power issues in the commercial hub and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of businesses.

Abia State, a major trading and industrial hub in Nigeria, boasts over 50,000 shoe manufacturers and a thriving fabrics and garment sector. The state has made significant strides in the past 8 months in improving infrastructure, including roads and drainages, to foster a conducive environment for business and investment.

Governor Otti appealed to the US Consulate for assistance in addressing the challenges of foreign currency funding and fluctuations and exploring potential partnerships in the digital economy and innovation sectors.

The Governor expressed his appreciation for the US Consulate’s interest and support for Abia State and looks forward to further collaboration and cooperation.
