Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged state officials to enforce capital punishment for kidnappers, expressing deep concern over the abduction of innocent children, who she regards as the nation’s future.
During a meeting with the National Women Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House in Abuja, she condemned the kidnappers for primarily targeting women and children, labeling them as cowards and inhumane.
She passionately stated, “Our hearts bleed. I urge the state governments to enforce capital punishments once these cowards are captured. They are attempting to destroy our future. We see our children as our investments, especially when they are successful. Why would they abduct them from their schools? As a former lawmaker, I firmly believe that any captured kidnapper deserves capital punishment.”
Senator Tinubu also emphasized the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which strongly focuses on creating opportunities for women to prosper economically, socially, and politically. She encouraged the women leaders to set a robust agenda for the empowerment, inclusion, and welfare of women within the APC and across the nation.
On International Women’s Day, she praised all Nigerian women for their courage, resilience, and determination. She highlighted the Renewed Hope Initiative’s (RHI) commitment to championing women’s causes and implementing various nationwide programs and initiatives.
She concluded, “Investing in women is not charity, but a crucial strategy to build Nigeria’s future. Empowering women with education, resources, and opportunities to unlock their full potential will help dismantle the economic and social barriers they face. I urge you all to support each other, let’s unite, love one another, and commit to uplift a sister, one at a time. Together, we can achieve remarkable things.”
The group, led by its National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Idele Alile, thanked the First Lady for her impactful contributions through the RHI and requested her support for more inclusion in the current government’s activities.
