Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, announced on Monday that the country has recommenced the legal proceedings against Boko Haram terrorists.
This statement was made during his address at the African Counter-Terrorism conference in Abuja.
The conference, inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu, is a two-day high-level summit supported by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT). It is taking place at the State House in Abuja under the banner ‘Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Institution Building to Address the Evolving Threat of Terrorism’.
The summit aims to bolster multilateral counter-terrorism collaboration and reconfigure the global community’s joint response to terrorism in Africa. It underscores the significance of solutions that are led and owned by Africans.
The conference serves as a forum to assess the extent and severity of the continent’s terrorism threat. It seeks to establish concrete strategic priorities and countermeasures to tackle this menace. The summit also aims to deepen regional cooperation, enhance the institutional capabilities of member states, and facilitate the sharing of best practices and knowledge to combat the complex threat of terrorism in Africa.
The summit is expected to be attended by heads of state, government officials from across Africa, representatives of international organizations and multilateral institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, and civil society groups.
