Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, expressed deep concern over the recent abduction of students at Confluence University of Science and Technology in Osara, Okene, Kogi State.
The attack by armed bandits has once again highlighted the challenges facing our children’s education in the country.
The distressing incident saw a number of students reportedly taken captive, adding to the already grave insecurity issues plaguing the nation. It is disheartening to see students preparing for exams fall victim to such violence. This act must be strongly condemned, and decisive measures need to be taken.
Attacks on students not only endanger lives but also undermine the very foundation of education. With a significant number of out-of-school children and low tertiary enrollment exacerbated by insecurity, the abduction of students further compounds the educational crisis. The government must prioritize the safety of its citizens.
