In a chilling development, the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have issued a dire ultimatum to the inhabitants of Kukawa LGA, warning them to abandon their homes or face lethal consequences.

This comes just four days after the tragic incident where fifteen fishermen from the Tumbun Rogo community fell victim to the terror group.

A local, who managed to escape to Maiduguri shortly after the threat was issued, shared this alarming information with Channels Television. Wishing to remain anonymous, he recounted how the terrorists assembled the locals from various communities early on Thursday morning, delivering their grim message: leave before Saturday or face death.

The threat triggered an immediate exodus from the communities. Some sought refuge in Kross Kauwa, while others headed for Monguno.

Kukawa LGA, located by Lake Chad, is known for its fishing, farming, and other agricultural activities. Despite the presence of Nigerian Army and Navy troops, the area has been a target for insurgents due to its socioeconomic value. The terrorists exploit the local fishing and farming industries for their own survival and financial gain.

Previously displaced by the insurgency, communities such as Kross Kauwa, Baga, Doron-Baga, Kukawa, and Tumbun Rogo had been resettled by the administration of Professor Babagana Zulum. Despite efforts to restore peace and stability, the area continues to face attacks from Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
