The Nigerian Army has strongly denied rumors regarding the death of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, calling the reports “fake news.”

In an official statement shared on its X account (@HQNigerianArmy), the Army dismissed the claims that Lt. Gen. Lagbaja had died from cancer, labeling the speculation as completely unfounded.

The false reports alleged that the Army Chief had passed away in a foreign hospital due to stage three cancer, attributing the information to an unnamed senior government official.

Refuting these claims, the Army stated, “Please disregard the rumors circulating about the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. The false reports spread by unverifiable sources are baseless and misleading.”

The Army also urged the public to seek information from credible sources and ignore misleading rumors from unreliable outlets.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, born on February 28, 1968, in Ilobu, Osun State, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023 as the 27th Chief of Army Staff.
