A newly constructed pedestrian bridge at the Five Stars Bus Stop, heading towards Iyana-Isolo along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos, has partially collapsed.

The incident, which occurred early Thursday around 6:30 a.m., was swiftly managed thanks to the rapid response of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Eyewitnesses revealed that part of the bridge had fallen, blocking a portion of the expressway. According to LASEMA’s investigation, the collapse was caused by an unknown articulated truck transporting heavy-duty equipment that struck the bridge, leading to structural damage and its eventual partial collapse.

LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that a heavy-duty forklift was deployed to clear the debris and prevent further accidents. “The entire bridge has been cordoned off by our Response Team, and decommissioning efforts have begun to ensure public safety,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
