Asari Dokubo, the former leader of Niger Delta militants, has publicly criticized Yoruba people and President Bola Tinubu for what he perceives as betrayal following the 2023 elections in Nigeria.
In a viral video that has gained significant attention online, Dokubo claimed he invested all his resources into campaigning for Tinubu, only to feel abandoned by the President after the election.
Dokubo expressed his discontent, stating, “The current Tinubu is not the Tinubu I used to know.” He declared that moving forward, he and his community would sever ties with the Yoruba and seek new alliances with northern Nigeria.
“From today, I will work and form an alliance with the North. President Tinubu betrayed me after I spent all my money and emptied my bank account campaigning for him,” Dokubo stated emphatically in the video. “We will spread the word that only the Northerners can work with the Ijaw people.”
In a related development, Dokubo also made headlines by asserting that the people of Rivers State would not submit to the authority of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. This statement was made during local government chairmanship elections in Rivers State.
Dokubo reaffirmed his support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, advising Wike to steer clear of political disputes within the state. He emphasized Wike’s diminished influence, claiming, “Wike is nobody without the paraphernalia of the office, and Nigeria will not surrender to him.”
