Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused President Bola Tinubu of indirectly endorsing alleged political instability in Rivers State.

According to Eze, Tinubu’s support of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, is enabling disruptive actions that could destabilize the state.

Eze’s statement came after a Federal High Court in Abuja ruled to halt monthly federal allocations to Rivers State, a decision he condemned as a “futile exercise.” The APC leader argued that this ruling, supported by Wike’s influence, only worsens the situation, contending that the judge disregarded critical political realities within the state.

“I must state unequivocally that the judge ignored the deeper implications of his decision, as the ruling relies on a misinterpretation of who legitimately represents the Rivers State Assembly,” Eze said. He argued that the verdict could foster chaos by empowering factions who, according to him, have “no legitimate claim” to speak for the state.

Eze criticized Wike’s role, accusing him of acting against the interests of Rivers State, despite its pivotal role in Nigeria’s economy and politics. He called Tinubu’s silence on Wike’s actions troubling, alleging it suggests tacit support.

“It’s disheartening that a federal court could deliver such a draconian ruling against any state in Nigeria. Rather than offering a unifying stance, the President’s apparent indifference suggests he backs Wike’s destabilizing actions in Rivers,” he continued.

Reflecting on Rivers State’s key economic role, Eze argued that denying the state its federal allocation only escalates political tensions, putting democratic governance in jeopardy. He urged citizens to remain calm, cautioning them against actions that could lead to a state of emergency declaration in Rivers State.
