The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has set the record straight on reports surrounding a recent ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja, concerning the party’s leadership.
Contrary to misleading media publications, the court did not issue any order restraining Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from functioning as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC. Instead, the court, presided over by Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite, refused the ex-parte application filed by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe and directed that the matter follow due process.
The ruling, delivered on September 4, 2025, contained four clear orders:
- That the Plaintiff/Applicant’s application dated and filed on September 2, 2025, is refused.
- That the Plaintiff/Applicant is hereby directed to put the Defendants on notice.
- That the Defendants/Respondents are ordered to appear before this Honourable Court to show cause why the application should not be granted.
- That the case is adjourned to September 15, 2025, for the Defendants/Respondents to show cause.
The court order was duly signed by Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite and certified by Kasope Kafayat Bola, Registrar of the Federal High Court.
The ADC noted that after failing to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from acknowledging the party’s leadership change, “political jobbers” have resorted to spreading false news. The party accused these actors of deliberately misrepresenting the ruling to destabilize opposition parties and mislead the public.
“These agents of destabilisation will stop at nothing, including twisting court rulings, in their desperate attempt to sow confusion and weaken opposition voices,” the party stated.
The ADC urged members of the press and the general public to exercise vigilance, verify facts before dissemination, and be wary of fake news often pushed by political opponents.
