The Social Democratic Party presidential candidate, Prince Adebayo Adewole, has criticised the Muslim Muslim presidential ticket promoted during the last election, saying the situation of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El Rufai shows the promise behind it has failed.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Adebayo said El Rufai was among the strongest supporters of the same faith ticket that produced President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. He said it was ironic that El Rufai, who backed the idea, is now struggling to get justice and freedom under the same administration.
Adebayo was speaking about religion in politics and preparations for the 2027 elections when he described the Tinubu Shettima Muslim Muslim ticket as a zero zero ticket for Nigerian Muslims.
He argued that Islam places more importance on justice and good leadership than the religion of a political office holder. According to him, the idea of a Muslim Muslim ticket was used to mislead Nigerians and gain political support.
The SDP candidate said El Rufai’s current situation represents the biggest contradiction in the entire debate, adding that Nigerians would not be fooled by political strategies built around religion.
Adebayo also accused President Tinubu’s administration of ignoring constitutional rules, especially on budget management and government spending.
He claimed the government has failed to follow laws on appropriation and financial discipline, while also weakening democratic institutions by restricting opposition activities, reducing public space and pushing electoral changes that favour those in power.
He described these actions as a threat to democracy and said Nigerians would demand accountability ahead of the 2027 elections.
