Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has made a fresh and explosive claim about President Bola Tinubu, insisting that he has evidence proving that the Nigerian leader is 90 years old.
Atiku made the claim while discussing his decision to contest the 2027 presidential election and defending himself against questions about his own age and fitness to serve.
The former vice president said he is healthy and strong enough to lead Nigeria, arguing that age alone should not determine whether a politician is capable of serving.
He then turned the attention to Tinubu, claiming that the president is 90 years old and unwell.
When questioned about the claim, Atiku stood by his position and said he has evidence to support it.
Atiku further stated that he would present the evidence in court.
The statement has immediately reopened the long running controversy surrounding Tinubu’s age and personal records.
Tinubu’s official date of birth is March 29, 1952, which would make him 74 years old in 2026. The presidency also recognised his 74th birthday in March.
However, different dates of birth have appeared in documents associated with Tinubu over the years. Records linked to Chicago State University have previously been reported as carrying 1954 and 1955 as birth years, while the officially recognised date remains 1952.
Those differences have continued to fuel questions about Tinubu’s personal history, although none of the publicly examined dates would make him 90.
Atiku’s latest allegation is different because he says he has separate evidence that has not yet been made public.
That distinction is important.
The evidence Atiku says he possesses should not be confused with old social media posts, photographs or previously reported university documents circulating online. Atiku has not publicly identified the exact document or material he says proves Tinubu is 90.
The Presidency has challenged Atiku to take the matter to court and produce the evidence.
The response has added pressure on the former vice president to substantiate his allegation, particularly because the claim directly contradicts Tinubu’s official age.
If Atiku eventually presents the evidence in court, it could trigger a major new examination of Tinubu’s age and personal records.
For now, Atiku’s position is clear. He says Tinubu is 90, says he has evidence to prove it and says he will present that evidence in court.
Whether the evidence can establish the claim remains the next major question.
The controversy is likely to remain part of the political battle ahead of the 2027 presidential election, as Atiku and Tinubu move closer to another major electoral confrontation.
