Less than 48 hours after, another six persons have been killed in a fresh herdsmen attack on Uvir Council Ward and around the Yelwata area, both in the Guma Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
During the attacks, which occurred in the wee hours of Thursday, four locals were killed by the herdsmen at Iye, Uvir council ward, while the other two were killed around the Yelwata axis.
It would be recalled that the herders had on Tuesday laid siege on Ahentse community in Ndzorov council ward of the LGA, where they killed five persons.
While the Chairman, Guma LGA, Caleb Aba confirmed the Thursday killings, the state command of the Nigeria Police was yet to confirm the attack.
Four of the persons were killed at Ake fish pond, where they had gone fishing, which is one of their sources of livelihood.
Chairman, Guma LGA, Caleb Aba who confirmed the killings in on phone, said “Four people were killed at Iye in Uvir council ward and two more were killed around the Yelwata axis.
“One cannot explain the reasons for this renewed killings, because there was no provocation at all. The herders just came, attacked the people and ran back into Nasarawa state” from where they emerged.
He further stated that “this last one (Thursday attack) happened in the early hours of today, between 3am and 4am.” (Daily Independent)
