The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has announced that the party will replicate the strategy it used to secure victory in the recent Edo State governorship election to win the upcoming Ondo State election on November 16.
Ganduje also revealed plans to extend this approach to Anambra and other states in the Southeast, currently governed by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), as part of the APC’s broader electoral ambitions.
Speaking in Abuja during a celebration of Senator Monday Okpebholo’s victory with members of the Edo election situation room, the former Kano State Governor emphasized the need for APC to dominate the Southeast geopolitical zone. He called on party leaders to commit to expanding the party’s influence in the region.
“We are already working on strategies to win these states. Next year, Anambra will follow. Let me remind you, we have a project called the political demarginalization of the Southeast zone. This is a task that must be completed. We currently control two states in the region, but for a party of our size, this is insufficient,” Ganduje stated, signaling APC’s intent to capture more territory in the Southeast.
In contrast, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally rejected the results of the Edo State Governorship election, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
At a media briefing in Abuja, the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Amb. Umar Damagum, expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome, insisting that Edo voters overwhelmingly supported the PDP’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and expected him to be declared governor-elect.
Damagum urged INEC to use the provisions of the Electoral Act to address what he described as a flawed process. “INEC must retrace its steps and ensure that the will of the people is respected,” he added, accusing the APC of conspiring with a “compromised” INEC and security officials to manipulate the results.
