Immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, was released by the Department of State Services (DSS) yesterday night, Thursday, October 26, 2023.

This came a day after the detained erstwhile Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, was also released by the DSS after 134 days of detention without trial.

However, while Bawa was allowed to go home, a SaharaReporters report says that Emefiele who had been in DSS custody since June 9, was however picked up immediately by the anti-corruption agency Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“Emefiele regained his freedom last night but he was immediately picked up by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” the portal quoted a top security source as saying.

“It was learnt that the Presidency directed the EFCC to take over the case,” the report adds.
