Peter Obi, a key figure in the African Democratic Congress, says it is both painful and unacceptable that terrorists can tell people to leave their own homes without any consequences.
In a message shared on his verified X account on Sunday, Obi described the situation as a serious collapse of leadership and basic human values. He stressed that Nigerians should be able to live safely, not under fear of violence.
Speaking about rising insecurity, especially in northern Nigeria, Obi said armed groups are now acting like authorities, deciding where people can stay and how they should live.
He pointed to incidents in Borgaja and other parts of Sokoto State as clear signs of how bad things have become.
He explained that it is tragic to see citizens being forced out of their ancestral homes, adding that such reports show a complete failure of governance.
Obi questioned how the country reached a point where people now take orders from terrorists instead of their own government.
He said no country can grow when its citizens live in fear and uncertainty.
According to him, the situation has gone beyond a security problem and should now be treated as a national emergency.
Obi added that the main duty of any government is to protect lives and property, insisting that Nigerians deserve peace and security in their daily lives.
