Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, embarked on a nationwide tour that coincided with the holy months of Ramadan and Lent.
His journey led him to the Faculty of Agriculture at Usmanu Danfodiyo University-Main Campus in Sokoto, where he visited the Forestry/Crop Science Nursery. Acknowledging the area’s dire need for water, Obi took the lead in installing a borehole for the faculty, a move aimed at alleviating this critical issue.
The faculty’s esteemed Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis expressed deep gratitude for this initiative, noting it as the first non-governmental project to directly benefit the facility. This act highlights the significant impact of continuous efforts in promoting educational and environmental sustainability.
Obi’s journey continued to Kebbi State, where he began with a formal visit to Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris. He then paid his respects to the Emir of Gwandu and the Chairman of the Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, Major General Mohammad Iliyasu Bashar (Rtd), in Birnin Kebbi. This visit served to strengthen relationships and foster mutual understanding. Obi then inaugurated a borehole he had donated to Anguwan Hutawa, Nasarawa Village, Nasarawa District, located behind the army barracks in the Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Upon his return to Abuja, Obi joined his fellow Christians at the Maitama Holy Trinity Catholic Church to celebrate Palm Sunday, underscoring the unity and inclusivity that form the backbone of our nation’s diverse society.
Reflecting on his experiences during these tours, Obi expressed his steadfast belief in the possibility of a New Nigeria.
