The founder of Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, Chukwuemeka Odumeje, has criticised the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, over his comment that President Bola Tinubu was doing his best to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
Odumeje, popularly known as Prophet Odumeje, made the remarks during a recent sermon, where he said religious leaders have a biblical duty to challenge bad governance rather than support leaders for personal benefits.
The Anambra-born cleric said he did not want to discuss Adeboye, but insisted that pastors must always stand for truth and speak against wrongdoing, regardless of who is involved.
“I don’t want to talk to Adeboye; I don’t want to talk to that man,” Odumeje said, adding that pastors should study the Bible and understand that their responsibility includes rebuking bad governments.
He argued that religious leaders should not seek benefits from those in power, stressing that their role is to guide society and speak honestly about issues affecting the people.
Odumeje said any person who speaks against poor leadership in Nigeria often faces attacks, but maintained that telling the truth remains the responsibility of those called to serve God and the public.
He also warned Nigerians against praising government officials for projects carried out with public funds, saying governors, senators and presidents are elected representatives who are expected to serve citizens and be accountable.
According to him, elected leaders are not owners of public resources but managers of the people’s wealth.
“Governors, senators, presidents, or whatever you want to call them, they are there as your representatives. They are not there for you to serve them. They are there to serve every citizen of Nigeria,” he said.
The cleric criticised the way Nigerians celebrate basic infrastructure projects such as roads, saying many countries completed similar developments long ago while Nigeria still praises leaders for providing them.
Odumeje said public projects are funded by citizens’ resources and should not be treated as personal achievements of politicians.
He urged Nigerians to understand their rights and demand accountability from leaders responsible for managing the country’s resources.
