In a recent interview with Arise TV, renowned Nollywood actor and lawyer, Barrister Kenneth Okonkwo, pronounced the demise of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), highlighting the shocking move of the incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to the All-Progressives Congress (APC).
Okonkwo lambasted Wike for accepting a position within the APC-led administration, asserting that this move symbolizes the fading relevance of the PDP in Nigerian politics. Echoing the statement of Peter Obi, who declared the Labour Party as the new primary opposition force, Okonkwo emphasized the Labour Party’s robust agenda and substantial support across all six geopolitical zones, solidifying its status as the nation’s main opposition party.
Reflecting on the political landscape, Okonkwo praised Peter Obi for crafting a comprehensive seven-point agenda during the campaigns, a blueprint that other parties imitated with less success. Okonkwo highlighted Obi’s competence, capacity, and character, stating that these qualities set him apart as the rightful leader of the main opposition party.
In a scathing critique of the PDP, Okonkwo argued that the party is virtually non-existent in the political realm of Nigeria. He pointed to the example of Nyesom Wike, a prominent PDP presidential aspirant and first runner-up in the party’s primary election, who not only left the party but also assumed a ministerial role in the rival APC.
Okonkwo concluded by affirming Peter Obi’s leadership in the Labour Party, predicting an effective opposition role until Nigeria realizes the dream of a new nation through his vision. He asserted that PDP’s absorption by the APC is a clear indication of the party’s waning influence in Nigerian politics.
