Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, asserts a commitment to preventing the loss of accreditation for the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) and highlights strategic plans for healthcare and education.

NN News Media reports in a meeting with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Governor Otti vows to address deficiencies identified by the accreditation team and emphasizes the significance of restoring ABSUTH’s accreditation as a top priority.

The governor outlines plans to allocate 15% of the 2024 annual budget to healthcare and 20% to education, emphasizing the responsibility of the government to promote the welfare and security of the people.

Governor Otti underscores the importance of reversing medical tourism with the establishment of a Medical Village in the state, expressing optimism about reducing the 1.6 billion Dollars spent annually on medical tourism abroad.

The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria commends Governor Otti for infrastructural improvements in ABSUTH and hails the unprecedented allocation of 20% and 15% to education and health in the budget, describing it as a ray of hope for Nigeria.
