Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has expressed his openness to collaborating with other politicians ahead of the 2027 elections.

In an interview with News Central, Obi stated that he is willing to work with any political figure, including Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the ex-presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

However, Obi emphasized that such collaboration must prioritize the welfare of the citizens over merely winning elections. “I’m ready to collaborate with anyone who is interested in lifting people out of poverty,” he stated. “If the collaboration is for state capture or just to win an election, I will not be part of it.”

When asked if he could potentially run as a vice president alongside another candidate, Obi responded that he would consider it if he found someone more capable of leading the nation. “Quite frankly, I’m not desperate to be the Nigerian president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work. If I see people who can do the work better, I will support them,” he said.

Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, also affirmed that he has no plans to leave the Labour Party. He stressed that any potential alliance must align with his goals for Nigeria’s future. “Yes, I would be here, and if anybody is coming to negotiate or join forces, they must clearly state their purpose,” he concluded.
