The family of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ICPC of denying him access to his personal doctor and stopping his wife from delivering food while he is in detention.
The allegation was made in a statement released by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai through his verified Facebook page, where the family claimed recent actions by the anti-corruption agency suggest a deliberate attempt to intimidate and weaken the former governor.
According to the statement, two incidents that occurred on May 15, 2026, were described as serious violations of El Rufai’s constitutional rights and a breach of an existing court order.
The family alleged that around 3:00pm, El Rufai’s personal doctor was denied access to him after officials reportedly insisted that approval from the ICPC chairman was required before any medical visit could take place.
They maintained that the restriction directly contradicted a court order granting the former governor unrestricted access to medical treatment during his detention.
The statement further claimed that later in the evening, around 7:00pm, El Rufai’s wife, Aunty Aichatou, was also prevented from delivering his dinner. ICPC officials allegedly cited an internal policy barring food deliveries after 6:30pm.
Condemning the development, the family described the actions as a dangerous abuse of power and an attack on the rule of law, insisting that detention should never strip any citizen of access to healthcare or family support.
They called on the ICPC to immediately comply with legal provisions and respect El Rufai’s rights while in custody, warning that they would resist what they described as intimidation hidden under official procedures.
The anti-corruption agency has not released any official statement in response to the allegations.
El Rufai, a prominent political figure and former governor of Kaduna State, remains in the custody of the anti-corruption agency over matters that have not yet been publicly disclosed, while details surrounding the investigation remain unclear.
