Nkiruka Nistoran, the publisher of NN News Media, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of contributing to the death of Hajiya Umma El Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El Rufai.

The publisher called on Tinubu to release Nasir El Rufai so he can pay his final respects to his late mother, Hajiya Umma El Rufai. She said that any decision to block him from seeing her body before burial is a heartless mistake.

She posted on her X account, saying, “Tinubu’s govt caused the death of El-Rufai’s mother. The fact that the woman had not seen her son for over a month is one of the reasons. She may have been thinking and worrying about where her son was. Another heartless mistake they shouldn’t make is not to allow Mallam to see his mother’s body before her final burial. Release Mallam now. My condolences @elrufai family.”

Reports indicate that Hajiya Umma El Rufai passed away in Egypt, where she had been receiving medical care prior to her death.

El Rufai had been with his mother in Egypt but returned to Nigeria after being invited by anti-corruption agencies. He has reportedly been in detention for over a month before being taken to court. The court has now formally ordered his remand in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) pending a bail hearing. The ICPC confirmed that his detention is based on court-approved remand orders and an ongoing investigation.

Nasir El Rufai is a prominent political figure in Nigeria, having served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023. He is known for his reform-driven policies, strong political stance, and active role in national discourse.
