Suspected terrorists attacked Ariko community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State during Easter celebrations, killing at least seven people and abducting several others.
The early morning assault targeted two churches, the ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church, where worshippers had gathered to celebrate Easter. Reports indicate the attackers were heavily armed and arrived in large numbers.
Mark Bawa, the councillor representing Awon Ward, confirmed the attack and said the exact number of casualties is still being verified, with some reports citing seven deaths and others eight. He described how the gunmen surrounded the community and opened fire, killing people and dragging several others into the nearby bush.
Residents expressed fear and frustration, noting that the attackers operated for a long time without resistance. Poor telecommunications and delayed security response left the community vulnerable, they said.
The Kaduna State Police Command has not released an official statement about the attack.
