Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), yesterday, revealed it has on its pension payroll 303 ex-Biafran police officers.

Executive Secretary, Chioma Ejikeme, disclosed this while fielding questions during a media briefing anchored by the Presidential Communications Team, at the State House, Abuja.

She told reporters: “We call them ‘war affected’. They are the policemen who served on the Biafran side during the Civil War. Currently, we have 303 of them on our payroll. The soldiers belong to the military pension. So, if there’s any such arrangement, it will be handled by the Military Pensions Board, not by PTAD. We don’t take care of soldiers. We only take care of the paramilitary and the police.”

She disclosed that PTAD repatriated £26.5 million from Crown Agents Investment Managers Limited of the United Kingdom, being the leftover of funds used to pay British colonial officers who worked in Nigeria.

PTAD also recovered, as legacy pension assets, N17.85 billion from Boards of Trustees and Underwriters of Treasury Funded Federal Parastatals.

According to Ejikeme, the funds were used to defray inherited arrears of defunct agencies of government and pay off inherited outstanding pension arrears.

She said the directorate has paid over N610 billion from January 2015 to December in monthly pensions, adding that PTAD has achieved 90 per cent of its mandate. (The Guardian)
