The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, says only leaders who identify what the problems of the country are will be able to lead the people to the new Nigeria they desire.

He said this while speaking to students of the University of Abuja during a town hall meeting in the school on Friday.

“I assure you that a new Nigeria is possible and that new Nigeria will be made possible by leaders who understand what the problem is. This election that is coming ought not to be based on ethnicity. If you are from the North and anybody says vote for me because I am from the North, tell him that the poorest people are from the North.

“They haven’t solved for years, in fact, it is unsecured. They have voted North since but what did they do? They used the controversies to ride to power. South-East is the same thing, poor people are everywhere. So please, it is not about ethnicity,” Obi told his audience.

The Labour Party presidential flag bearer, said 9 out of the 10 poorest states in the country are in the north despite having enormous arable land for farming that can ensure Nigeria not only feed itself as a country but also export agricultural products to earn foreign exchange.

On the entourage of Obi are his running mate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, Valentine Ozigbo and Ambassador Joe Keshi.

Before Obi, the candidate of the new Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, was the first to attend the UNIABUJA town hall series. (Channels TV)
