In a special plenary session convened for the approval of the 2024 budget, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas disclosed that over the last six months, lawmakers in the House of Representatives have collectively presented an astounding 962 bills.

The legislative activity, which commenced with the House’s inauguration on June 13th, signifies a proactive approach to addressing diverse issues.

During the session, Abbas highlighted that out of the 962 bills, 120 have progressed to the Second Reading stage and have been referred to relevant committees for further evaluation. Concurrently, the House has witnessed the introduction of 500 motions and the resolution of 153 petitions within the same timeframe.

“The legislative outputs in the last six months are remarkable. The House received and considered 962 bills, 500 motions, and 153 petitions. Of these numbers, 120 bills have passed the Second Reading stage.

They are currently undergoing further review and refinement to address some of the concerns raised during the debates,” stated the Speaker, emphasizing the diligence and commitment exhibited by the lawmakers.
