Leaders of the Fulani community in Nigeria have called on President Bola Tinubu to honor the commitments he made to them.
Following a meeting in Abuja, they urged Tinubu to fulfill his electoral pledge of establishing a livestock agency to assist migrant cattle herders.
The Fulani leaders also requested Tinubu’s intervention in addressing the alleged bias against the Fulani community by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike. They reaffirmed their support for Tinubu’s administration and expressed optimism that the country’s repositioning efforts would soon yield results. However, they cautioned that such actions could adversely affect the Fulanis’ economic well-being.
Ardo Aliyu Liman Bobboi, the President of the Fulbe United for Peace and Development Association of Nigeria (FUPDAN), the representative body of all Fulani associations in the country, stated that their appeal for the President’s intervention was due to the significant role the Ardos, who number over 33,360, played in Tinubu’s successful presidential campaign in 2023.
He said, “The entire Ardos of the Fulbe United for Peace and Development commend the current administration’s efforts in providing exemplary leadership for the country. We fondly remember then-candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s engagement with Ardos from all 36 States and Abuja on a chilly February evening. This interaction sparked a national movement that secured a landslide victory for his candidacy within the Fulani community in Nigeria. We take immense pride in the significant success achieved at the 2023 polls.”
