Iran’s highest leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was expected to speak to the country just minutes after strikes by the United States and Israel hit top Iranian leaders and key locations, Iranian state-linked Al-Alam TV reported.

The announcement came hours after the attacks, which various sources say targeted senior figures and installations in Iran. There are conflicting reports about Khamenei’s condition some foreign officials say he may have been killed, while Iran’s own government says he and other leaders are still alive.

At first the state channel said Khamenei’s speech would be “within minutes,” but later that note was removed and it was not clear if the speech took place.
